Irish Soda Bread

 

IRISH SODA BREAD    


4 Cups Flour                                               

1 ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda

1 Teaspoon Salt

1 Tablespoon Sugar

1 Cup Raisins (Either dark or golden)

1 ¼  Cup Shaken Buttermilk

2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter Melted

Optional 

1 ½ Tablespoon Caraway Seeds

In a large mixing bowl:

Sift flour, baking soda, and salt.  Stir in sugar and raisins.  Add buttermilk and stir until moistened.  Transfer dough to well floured surface, knead with floured hands about 8 times.  Form into a ball.  Either halve the dough or bake the entire amount on a well greased and floured pan.  Prior to baking score and X on top of dough and brush with melted butter.

Bake a 375 for 40-50 minutes.
